New Delhi, Aug 22 : The Centre on Monday informed the Supreme Court that the committee of administrators (CoA) which is in charge of the operations of All India Football Federation (AIFF) must be disbanded from today. It also proposed 25 percent of the executive committee elected by the members should be composed of prominent players.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre has argued before an apex court composed of Justice D.Y.Chandrachud, that the effect of suspension of AIFF is devastating and “we will lose the right to host the World Cup.There is no way that any of our players are eligible to participate in international soccer in any region of the globe”.

Mehta stated that the two return officers selected by CoA should be regarded as the returning officers appointed by the apex court. He also suggested that 25 percent of the executive committee that is elected should be comprised of eminent members.

In response to FIFA’s suspension of the AIFF, Mehta suggested that CoA should be disbanded immediately and its administration should be handled by the secretary general who is currently in place until the elections on August 28 following which the new management body will be established.

Mehta insisting on finding a way to get out, said that the government attempted to determine whether India was unfairly treated in the issue, but FIFA has an unifying policy and said that there are 18 suspension orders around the globe and India is not targeted.

Concerning the position of Bhaichung Bhutia, Mehta stated that the Central government is contemplating an even bigger job for him than he is currently aiming for and said Bhutia in football is similar to Sachin Tendulkar in cricket.Bhutia former captain of the Indian team requested the apex court to approve the adoption of the draft AIFF Constitution of CoA that prioritizes and encourages participation and welfare of former and present players, and not the interests of vested interests that have been controlling the organization for years.

The trial is in process in the Apex Court.

On August 3 The Supreme Court directed that the interim executive committee of AIFF will be selected not just by the 36 state football federations as well as by 36 prominent former footballers – 24, male and 12 female players who played in international matches for the country.

The supreme court ordered the CoA to conduct AIFF elections swiftly in line with the timeframe set by the CoA and in accordance with the draft football federation constitution.

The Supreme Court clarified that the committee elected will constitute an interim body that would last for three months.

of three months, subject to any further orders. The court of supreme appeals asked CoA to conduct the election quickly so that the Under 17 Women’s World cup is run through an elected body.

The Women’s World Cup Tournament will commence on the 11th of October 2022.India hosts it.The highest court has was able to speed up the process in the sense that FIFA requires a democratically-elected organization of AIFF to supervise the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
