Puducherry govt hoodwinking people on statehood: Narayanasamy

Puducherry : , Jan 1, 2007: Former Chief Minister of Puducherry and senior Congress leader, V.Narayanasamy, lashed out against the NDA government in union territory, claiming that they are hoodwinking the people with promises to statehood.
On Saturday, the senior leader of Congress spoke to journalists.

Narayanasamy stated that Chief Minister N.Rangaswamy has spoken time and again about the need for statehood, but has not taken the matter to the central government.

Former Chief Minister stated that, aside from the adoption of a resolution at the assembly about statehood, there was no follow up.Narayanasamy stated that the resolution had not been forwarded to central government, and that Chief Minister hadn’t communicated it to Prime Minister and Home Minister.

According to him, even though BJP promised special status for Puducherry in its manifesto, the Lok Sabha has declared that the central government is not considering it.This was a sign that the promises made by the BJP were hollow and aimed to hoodwink people, according to the former Chief Minister.

Narayanasamy stated that the Central government ignored the Puducherry administration and that the central government did not approve the amount due the UT.The central government did not consider the problems of unemployment and inflation even though the NDA governed both the territory government as well the central government.

He stated that NDA allies AINRC, BJP and AINRC were fighting each other in the UT.

Former Chief Minister claimed that the NDA government of the UT allowed New Year celebrations to be held in violation all Covid protocols, even though there were two Omicron cases being reported.
