He claimed that the family members of the victim together with other members of the community, were been gathered in the front of Pir Baba’s police station on the Saturday in which area the incident took place and demanded the officialization of the incident, however, the police were unable to register the incident.

“When police were hesitant to issue an FIR The family then protested outside the police station” he said, adding that, subsequently, police promised them of finding the woman missing, Dawn reported.

The Sikh community once again approached the police, who told them she was found and she had got married to her neighbor who was an Muslim man in court.

Another Sikh community leader, Radash Singh Tony, claimed that the woman was abducted by force, converted, and then married off, but the police were playing the part of the role of “silent observer”.

He stated that when community members met with the district police chief on Saturday evening, he had assured them that Kumari was going to be given to the family. However, on Sunday, police acted in a manner that was unprofessional with family members and refused to deliver her or record their findings.

Tony was demanding that the government bring Kumari with his family.

In the meantime, Buner DPO Abdur Rasheed denied the family’s claim when he spoke to Dawn news, stating that the police found the woman and brought her before the magistrate in the local session court, where she recorded her testimony and confirmed in the courtroom that she changed her religion to Islam and entered into a marriage contract of her free will. She also provided the necessary documents.

He said that the court requested the police to transfer her to Darul Aman and provide her security, Dawn reported.

“The instance is in the court. If the court gives an order of to file an FIR the police will be able to register an FIR,” the DPO added.
