By Manigandan K.R.Chennai, Dec 8 : With just a day to go for the release of his film ‘Anti-Indian’, reviewer-turned-director Elamaran better known as ‘Blue Sattai’ Maran is a man brimming with confidence.
IANS spoke to the debutant director.
He was a critic and earned the ire of many filmmakers.What I mean by right content is that it is universally applicable to everyone.
Blue Sattai Maran rose to fame for his harsh reviews of films that he posted on his YouTube channel.His reviews were so brutal that he gained quite a few fans.
It also earned him the ire of some in the film industry.
Some were so offended by his comments that they even suggested to the reviewer that perhaps he should make a film before critiquing the work of others.
Taking up the suggestion, the reviewer-turned-director chose to make a film titled ‘Anti-Indian’.Many people were quick to respond to his announcement that he had made a film.
Maran says, “The content of my film is something that is essential for society today.” Everyone who sees my film will find something they can relate to.It will therefore be enjoyed by everyone.It is up to the viewers to decide if they like it or not.I tried my best and it was a pleasure to present it.
Ask the reviewer if he would be able take the film’s reviews in stride, especially those that will be on the lines with his reviews.He replies, “Actually I welcome them.” We are not going to be criticised because they have nothing better to do.They have shown respect by choosing to spend time and money on a film.They have the right to say whatever they want.
They can say whatever they want about the film.This applies to all directors.
“As far I am concerned, there are certain sections that hate me.Let them be.They are also my fans.I ask them to look at the creator.The creation should be your only focus.Although the creator may be a murderer, or a thief, if his creation has been created well, we should respect it.Even if the creator is a great man, if his creation is not right, you can point it out.”That is what I expect,” said the debutant director.
With just days until his film’s release, does the director regret making harsh observations in any of his reviews?
Maran says, “Absolutely not.” He points out that he hasn’t removed any video he’s posted up to today.”I say this because I only switch on the camera after I feel 100% right.My review is written after everyone else’s.
I watch the film first, but I do not see it before anyone else.My reviews are a day late.
Because that is how much time I spend thinking about the film.I think about the film 100 times before I speak, and I never retract anything I say.Despite facing many problems and opposition, I have not deleted one video.
