Los Angeles, Aug 30 : Southern California is experiencing a severe heat wave since Monday with temperatures predicted to reach triple digits during the week. The US National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an extreme heat watch for a large portion of Southern California, with temperatures expected to rise only a few degrees on Monday.
They will rise even higher on Tuesday and remain that way until the Labor Day weekend, Xinhua news agency reported.
“High pressure will result in an extended rising trend with only a thin marine layer” according to the NWS.”By mid-week, very hot weather will be developing with triple-digit temperatures in several mountain and valley locations throughout the Labor Day weekend. This could be record breaking and likely create a high risk of heat illness.”
This week’s extreme heat for the region is expected to be the longest and warmest heat wave to date this summer, according to David Sweet, a meteorologist for the NWS in Oxnard, California and he added that record temperatures are possible.
A huge cloud of hot air spanning Central and Southern California is driving the heat wave, Sweet was quoted by The Los Angeles Times as saying.
