New Delhi, Aug 22 : As as many as 19 farmers traveling to Jantar Mantar to participate in the farmers’ Mahapanchayat, on Monday were detained by Delhi Police from Ghazipur border.The farmers who were holding protests at the Ghazipur border, were arrested after they made the decision to go toward Jantar Mantar.
According to the police, in order to avoid any unpleasant incident they took the protesters to the police station in the area via bus.
In the meantime the Samyuktha Kisan Morcha has written to President Dropudi Murmu in connection with their protest.
“We write this letter in order to notify you about our protest against the manner in which this government is managing the issue of farmers.The Ministry of Agriculture made an agreement with Samyuktha Kisan Morcha on December 9 2021.
According to the agreement, we halted the Delhi border agitation on the night of December 11.However, the government has not complied with the terms of the agreement.Not only that, but the government is introducing more anti-farmer policies such as the negotiation of Free Trade Agreements.”
“Kindly ask for you to direct and instruct the Council of Ministers to fulfill the agreement with Samyuktha Kisan Morcha on December 9 2021 and to accept the demand letter sent to the Prime Minister on 17th August 2022 (Demand notice attached).Also, direct the Council of ministers to initiate an exchange with the farmers group in the country as soon as is possible,” read their letter.
Security measures have been increased across the capital, and particularly at the borders in the wake of the violence.
