UNDP to discuss the need for support for Laos the country’s development priorities

Vientiane 5 September : A senior official of the UN Development Program (UNDP) is currently in Vientiane for a discussion about its support and contribution to the progress of Laos the state media reported Monday.
UN Assistant Secretary-General as well as UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Kanni Wignaraja arrived in Vientiane on Sunday to make her first official trip to Laos as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Wignaraja will meet with top officials of the government of Laos for a discussion of UNDP’s support and contribution to national development priorities, which include the 9th National Socio-economic Development Plan and the sustainable development goals, as reported by the Lao state-run news agency.

The UN official will take part in the launch of an innovative program with the Lao National Assembly, the Lao Parliament, dubbed Strengthening the Capacity and Efficacy of People’s Assembly Systems in Laos (STEPS).

Wignaraja is scheduled to visit important UNDP projects in Laos.

Over the course of four decades of collaboration with the Laos, UNDP has supported the Lao government in various areas, including socio-economic development inclusive growth, improved living standards, strengthening the resilience of communities across the country, as well as climate action.
