Adelaide, December 13, 2013 : .England’s head coach Chris Silverwood confirmed that James Anderson and Stuart Broad, pace bowling veterans in England, are available to select for the Ashes Second Test.However, he said that he had “not yet told anyone” who they were playing.Silverwood and England’s captain Joe Root were criticised after they dropped the pair for the Ashes test at Brisbane.
Australia took a 1-0 lead over England in five-Test series.
Broad was also unhappy that he had been included in the 12-member squad on the previous day, and then dropped from the Gabba Test morning.
It would have been wrong to make a fuss in such a situation.Broad wrote that he had been overlooked on many occasions, and it sometimes surprises me,” he said in his Daily Mail column after England’s loss.
Silverwood stated that they are indeed available on Sunday night.Jimmy (Anderson), as well as Stuart (Broad) will both be available and fit to play in the second Test.
However, I haven’t told anybody they are yet playing.
The pink ball has been used to train the guys and we now have a skilled set of bowlers.Metro.co.uk quoted Silverwood as saying, “We have talent.We still have two of our best.”
England had gone with pacers Ollie Robinson, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood and Ben Stokes and spinner Jack Leach in the Test at The Gabba.While the pace bowlers were economical to some extent, 30-year-old left-arm spinner Leach bled runs, conceding 102 in 13 overs at an economy rate of nearly eight.
Silverwood said he was unfazed by the criticism and was willing to take responsibility for the big loss.
“It is part of my role to take the criticism because the buck stops with me.I have no problem with that and it is how it should be, but we have to work with what we have got,” he added.
