New Delhi, December 29, : , P.Chidambaram, a senior Congress leader, criticized the government and the media Wednesday for failing to pay attention to Mother Teresa’s rejection of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act renewal (FCRA).He claimed that Christians, “after Muslims are the new targets of the Hindutva brigade”. Taking to Twitter, he said: “Did you notice that the mainstream media has banished the story of MHA-FCRA-Missionaries of Charity from its pages? It is shameful and sad! It is shameful that MoC was rejected.It reveals prejudice and bias against Christian charity work in the case MoC.The Hindutva brigade is now focusing on Christians as a new target after Muslims.
He blasted the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday for not renewing FCRA due to “some adverse inputs”.Mother Teresa, who dedicated her entire life to caring for India’s ‘poor and the wretched’, is affronted by this.
He said that the MHA should use its Sherlock Holmes-like skills to stop communal violence and terrorist activity and to support Christian charity and humanitarian efforts.The Modi government has now clearly stated that it is “targeting Christians in order to further its majoritarian agenda”.
Anand Sharma, a former Union Minister described the denial as “shocking” and said that he was shocked at the government’s decision to freeze the Missionaries of Charity accounts.The cruel, insensitive, and inhumane decision that will most hurt the poor and the sickest is condemned.
For PM to intervene and for immediate reversal.
On Monday, however, the Centre clarified that the Centre had not frozen bank accounts of Missionaries of Charity.
According to the ministry, the MoC refused the renewal of FCRA because it did not meet the requirements under FCRA 2010 or Foreign Contribution Regulation Rules 2011 (FCRR).
It added that MoC has not received any revision request to review the decision of refusal.
