SKorea: New infections under 1 lakh for the fourth day; pre-departure PCR tests are no longer required

Seoul 4th of September : South Korea’s latest COVID-19-related cases remained at or below 100,000 for the fourth consecutive day according to local health officials announced on Sunday, in a bid to eliminate the pre-departure test rule for arrivals was put into effect.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) 72,144 new infections, which includes 241 from abroad confirmed with the total number of cases reaching 23,569,192.

The daily number of cases jumped to 115,615 cases on the day of August 30 from 43,114 earlier however, it fell in the last six days of August 30 to Sunday, Yonhap news agency reported.

The Sunday number fell by 13,089 cases when compared to a week prior.

Starting on Saturday, South Korea suspended its COVID-19 pre-departure test that is mandatory for travelers who are inbound.A obligatory PCR test for the first 24-hours of entering South Korea remains in place.

The KDCA has reported 79 more deaths from COVID-19.This puts the number of deaths at 27,093.The death rate was 0.11 percent.

The count of seriously ill patients rose to 548, which was up 28 from the previous day.

Health authorities are cautious of the possibility of an increase in cases later in the month, as a lot of Koreans are expected to travel back to their hometowns for the 4-day Chuseok holiday which starts on Friday.

Of the local transmitted cases of 71,903, Seoul reported 11,928 new cases and Gyeonggi Province, which is located around Seoul added 18,351 new infections.Incheon the port city that lies 27 kilometers to the west of Seoul has identified 390 new cases.

Meawhile the defense ministry has reported 560 additional COVID-19 instances within its military personnel.

The latest cases comprised 405 soldiers from the Army as well as an additional 74 from the Air Force, 20 from the Navy 34 of the Marine Corps and 27 from units under the direct supervision of the ministry.

At present 496 military personnel are being treated.
