Thiruvananthapuram Jan 1, : , The Kerala Police have come under fire after insulting a Swedish entrepreneur running a Kovalam homestay for four years.Police stopped a Swedish citizen Stig Stephen Asberg, who was on his way back to Sweden with three liquor bottles purchased from the Kerala Beverage Corporation.
The two-wheeler was found to have three liquor bottles when police examined it.
Stephen claims that Stephen was forced to dispose of the three-litres of alcohol he had in his possession by police because he could not produce the receipt.The holograms were on all three bottles.Police can verify the authenticity of a bottle by attaching a hologram to it.However, the police demanded the receipt be produced or the liquor was thrown away.
Stephen, a nature lover and Stephen emptied the plastic bottles before police.
The issue became a national sensation and the Kerala Police lost its face.Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, directed the DGP state to pursue the corrupt officers.
In the meanwhile, Shaji, Sub Inspector at Kovalam Police Station, was removed from active service.Inquiries are being conducted by senior police officers to determine if action will be taken against the Station House Officer.
Stephen spoke to IANS and stated that he has been managing the homestay for four years, but that he’s been having issues with local residents as well as the police.
After the arrest of the European national, the Kerala government has been feeling the pinch.
While speaking with reporters at Thiruvananthapuram, State Tourism Minister Mohammed Riyaz stated that police did not need to interfere in the state’s policies.However, he said that he would pursue any erring officers.
Already, I informed the Chief Minister about the unintended actions of the police against tourists and entrepreneurs.It is unacceptable that this continues.
We will take strong actions to stop this from happening.
