San Francisco, Aug 22 : The world’s largest e-commerce company eBay today announced that it has bought TCGplayer which is a marketplace for collectible game fans, for $295 million.TCGplayer employs over 600 employees serving millions of avid buyers as well as thousands of thousands of brick-and-mortar and online stores through its Marketplace and its authentication center.
“eBay is continuing to build upon our 26-years of knowledge in trading cards, empowering local hobby stores as well as Main Street retailers to deliver an online platform that collectors appreciate,” said Dawn Block Vice President of Collectibles at eBay.
“With TCGplayer, we can improve the user experience across all categories, build more connections, and provide to fans from all over the globe,” Block said in an announcement.
Trading cards are a coveted category that has seen a significant growth.
“This new chapter will allow us to operate independently within eBay while benefitting of their years of industry experience and resources to enhance the connections between hobbyists and their communities,”” stated Chedy Hampson TCGplayer’s CEO and Founder.of TCGplayer.
TCGplayer develops software for inventory management tools, inventory management tools and hardware such as automated sorting machines, which are revolutionizing the industry of collectibles and linking thousands of hobby shops and sellers on the internet with collectors and customers across the world.
The acquisition is subject to normal closing conditions, including regulatory approvals and is expected close in the first quarter of 2023.
