New Delhi, Aug 14 : The Congress on Sunday slammed the BJP for “using” the tragic events of partition to advance political purposes.Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed that the main motive of the Prime Minister’s decision to declare the 14th of August as ‘Partition Horrors’ Remembrance Day’ is to make use of the most horrific historical events as a source of inspiration for his current political fights.
Many were injured and many lost their lives.Their sacrifices should not be ignored or disregarded.
Jairam was responding to the Prime Minister’s tweet in which he said, “Today, on #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay, I pay homage to all those who lost their lives during Partition, and applaud the resilience as well as grit of all those who suffered during that tragic period of our history.”
Ramesh said that the tragedy of partition should not be used to incite hatred and prejudice.”The truth is that Savarkar invented the 2 nation theory and Jinnah perfected it.Sardar Patel wrote “I believed that if we didn’t admit the partition of India, India would be split into several parts and be destroyed completely’.
“Will the Prime Minister also remember the day of Shyama Prasad Mookherjee? The founding member of the Jan Sangh, who championed the Partition of Bengal against the wishes of Sarat Chandra Bose and who was a member in the first Cabinet of India’s independence as the devastating effects of Partition began to become clear?” he added.
The Congress claimed that the “modern day” Savarkars and Jinnahs continue to work to create divisions in the nation.
The Indian National Congress will uphold the tradition of Gandhi, Nehru, Patel and many others who were unwavering in their attempts to bring the nation together.The politics of hatred are going to be defeated”.
