St John’s (Antigua), Dec 5, : .Cricket West Indies (CWI), announced on Sunday that Kieron Pollard, captain of the white-ball tour to Pakistan, will not be able to play due to a hamstring injury he sustained at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cups in the UAE and Oman.
It also announced Devon Thomas, Rovman Powell as Pollard’s replacements in the ODI (and T20I) squads. According to a statement from the CWI, “Pollard will undergo rehabilitation in Trinidad under the supervision CWI’s Chief Medicine Officer, Dr Israel Dowlat and will be reassessed within a few weeks before the upcoming home tour against Ireland and England in Jan 2022.”
Nicholas Pooran and Shai hope will take over the T20I and ODI teams in Pollard’s absence.Nicholas Pooran will be leading the T20Is team, with Pollard out.He was the stand-in captain when West Indies beat Australia by 4-1 in the five-match CG Insurance T20I Series series in St.Lucia earlier in this year.Shai Hope will be the captain of the team in the ODIs.The statement further stated that Pooran is Vice Captain of the ODIs, and Hope Vice Captain of the T20Is.”
West Indies will visit Pakistan on December 9, and will play in three T20Is as well as a number of T20Is at the National Stadium Karachi, which will be open from December 13 through 22.The three ODIs form part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League.This league helps to secure direct qualification spots for the top seven cricket teams and hosts India for 2023 Cricket World Cup.
With four wins and five losses, West Indies is currently in eighth place among 13 teams.Pakistan is in seventh place with the same number of wins.
