This was the first of three rounds that required the bill to be passed before it could become a law.

After a ministerial panel gave its approval last week, the cabinet of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett voted by phone to support the legislation.

This bill has been widely interpreted as an attack on Benjamin Netanyahu, former Prime Minister. He was ousted 12 years later by the new coalition.

Netanyahu was the country’s longest serving leader, having served as Prime Minister for 15 years.

This bill is not retroactive and will not affect Netanyahu if he runs for another term.
