Ahmedabad 8 August : A district official in education in Gujarat has directed school managers to ensure that children of class IX through XII who have taken advantage of central or state government programs or policies, to send out postcards of gratitude to the respective government. Patan district education officer (DEO) Jayram Joshi told IANS, “I am part of the system and am following the guidelines that I am given.
At a district-level officers meeting at the district level, the director of the rural development agency suggested that we request students to write thank you letters to the Chief Minister as well as the Prime Minister.Therefore, I’ve sent an email to students asking them to write letters of gratitude.”
In the letter that was sent, the DEO statedthat “The students of Class IX to XII of your schools are getting the advantages of various government programs and policies.Therefore, they are required to write a thank you letter directed to the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister of India.It is your responsibility to make sure that all students compose the letter, which must be delivered to the DEO’s office before August 12.”
The letter hasn’t been received very well with the Youth Congress which will stage an protest in front of the DEO’s offices.
Youth Congress leader Vishwanathsinh Vaghela said, “The officer should not forget that it’s public money that the students received their benefits, but not from the account of the ruling party.”
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarti Parshad (ABVP) is not entirely convinced with the official letter sent by the DEO’s office.
The state secretary of ABVP Yuti Gajre stated, “The DEO should not have issued this directive.The officer needs to provide an the reason for the issuance of this letter.”
