Goa Congress demands ‘White Paper”on work

Panaji 9 Aug : Announcing that the Goa government can provide regular jobs to just the 115 candidates of 1,16,379 people that are registered with the exchange for employment The Congress has urged the government to publish a “White Paper on the current job market in the state’s coastal areas.
Amit Patkar, President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, on Tuesday also demanded the intervention of Governor P.S.Sreedharan Pillai in the matter.

“As according to the information provided from our MLA in the Assembly session it has come into the light that there are 1,16,379 individuals who are not employed in Goa that are in the register with the exchange for employment.From February 2019 until July 2022, the Goa government has offered employment to 115 individuals on a regular basis, and to 1,749 on a contract basis.

The response exposes the total inability of the state government to provide jobs to those who are Youth,” Patkar said in an email addressed to Pillai.

According to Patkar Patkar, the degree of discontent is increasing alarmingly among educated youth who are turning on drugs as well as other vices.

“The government should publish”a White Paper” on the current employment situation in Goa and present the facts and figures.We also have asked the Governor to ask the government to speed on the process of hiring by forming the Staff Selection Commission,” Patkar said to media persons.

He added that the government has been unable to meet with its pledge of giving jobs in the government for the youth of Goa.

“It is regrettable that the Goa government has displayed total disregard for the many reports released by various organizations and Union ministries highlighting the growing the rate of unemployment in Goa,” he declared.

“The report compiled by the Centre for Monitoring of Indian Economy (CMIE) set the unemployment rate of Goa at 13.4 percent in May 2022, contrast to the national average of 7.12 percent,” Patkar said.

“During the 2017 Assembly elections in 2017, the BJP had pledged to create 50,000 jobs for Goans.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had pledged the provision of employment opportunities to 10,000 Goans during the local body polls as well as the previous Assembly elections.He has recently issued a promise of offering two lakh opportunities for employment in the next five years.” Patkar said, saying that the government must be clear about the issue.
