Bridgetown (Barbados) August 29 : With 16 wickets in his last 10 T20Is, since being the focus of attention for his vital function in the success of IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals in runners-up finish at IPL 2022 left-arm pacer Obed McCoy is raring to begin the start of the 10th season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).The 25-year-old is switching sides this season, previously playing for St Lucia Kings and will be playing with the Barbados Royals, a team he also played for in the first season of THE 6IXTY that ended on Sunday.
“It’s clearly a brand new team for me, but I’ve gotten comfortable with the team since there are lots of familiar faces in our team. It’s a continuation of the IPL itself and I’m glad that the team has placed their trust in me.I feel at ease here and this aids me in taking on matches with confidence.” stated McCoy in an official statement from the franchise.
After missing out on winning the IPL trophy earlier in the year, McCoy has already set his sights on the CPL title.”We’re trying to take home the CPL and my strategy is to continue going out and take wickets to help the team get over the line.”
“With wickets in the Caribbean you’ll know that the majority of them are spin tracks, and I believe that spin tracks will play a part. For batters, it’s all focused on getting in and getting the most of it, and for bowlers, the middle overs will be vital. But we must tick every box and adapt to the conditions every time we play.”
The Royals will also have new captain David Miller joining the squad later in the tournament, with Kyle Mayers serving as his deputy.McCoy has revealed his thoughts about what people can expect from this South African great.
“It is is fairly unfamiliar to him. However, looking at him, I believe it’s a role that’s right for his personality. He’s a very skilled player, and I’m certain that he’s always learning, and that applies to the captaincy too. He’s been in excellent form of recent and we’re looking forward to seeing if he will be our captain from the front with enthusiasm and assist the team in doing their best.”
Miller’s Gujarat Titans who defeated McCoy’s Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 Final.McCoy declares that he will certainly have a conversation about it however, he (Miller) was in top form and deserves merits credit for Miller.’
A dazzling IPL season that was followed by a decisive performance for the West Indies, including taking six wickets against India in the second T20I, has boosted McCoy’s standing as an international bowler. But the skilled left-armer isn’t looking to change anything.
“Well I don’t place the pressure on myself. The conclusion of the day, it’s all about trusting my abilities and performing. When I’m playing cricket I don’t worry about the noise outside.I let my abilities speak for themselves.I don’t overthink taking wickets. My aim is to control and apply pressure on myself, and it’s only natural for wickets to follow immediately after.”
With new targets in his sights, McCoy will be one of the top bowlers in the Barbados Royals’ line-up alongside Jason Holder and Oshane Thomas. He is already embracing the chance to play an integral part in the wheel.
“I’m very excited about this season.
I think that the last two of months (IPL) really helped me get my career on the right track and I’m hoping to keep growing as a player.learn the game better , and climb to the top of the ladder as far as I can.It all starts with helping my team to win the CPL trophy.”
