Zomato starts grocery delivery with Blinkit on the main application in the pilot test (Lead)

New Delhi, Aug 27 : Zomato on Saturday began a test pilot of providing groceries through Blinkit in its primary platform in Delhi-NCR.The online food retailer is looking to “accelerate” the delivery time of 10 minutes platform’s road to profitability.
The test pilot is being held at selected circles in Delhi-NCR.After analysing the results the test will be extended to other cities too.

“Blinkit tab in Zomato is currently a pilot program in a few locations for a limited set of customers.We will provide more details about the matter in due course,”A Zomato spokesperson said to IANS.

The participants of the pilot program can place an order for a minimum value of 150 rupees via Blinkit in Zomato’s main app.However, on Zomato the price remains at 49.

When the purchase of Blinkit is completed, Zomato will experiment with the possibility of leveraging its customer base to Blinkit and vice reverse, its Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal has stressed.

“The Blinkit app will continue to function independently.

We will also begin work on the integration of the back-ends of our delivery fleet that will help improve efficiency of delivery in the future,” he had said in the letter to shareholders.

Technology integration between the two companies will increase the speed of technological advancements both ways.

According to Blinkit the company, the losses for Blinkit are decreasing every month — from 2,040 million (about $26 million) in January 2022 to 929 million rupees ($12 million) in July.

Blinkit has also shut down a variety of dark stores that were not profitable that were not scaling and will continue to assess stores that are not performing.

In only six months In just six months, within a short period of time, Blinkit business has grown to 20% of Zomato’s GOV for food delivery while operating in just 15 cities.

“Quick commerce spans the entire spectrum of essential expenditures, including grocery fruits and vegetables cosmetics and personal care, OTC medicines, stationery items, and many more.

We anticipate that the total number of customers and average order value , as well as the frequency of orders per month to be greater than food delivery,” According to the company.

Blinkit recently announced plans to deliver printed copies to doorsteps in the blink of an eye.
