Seoul 23 August : South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has been elected President of South Korea.Yoon Suk-yeol’s approval ratings increased for the second consecutive week in an indication that his approval rating could be recovering from the lows of his presidency according to a poll released on Monday.In the survey of 2,011 people conducted by Realmeter between August 16 and 19, 32.2 per cent gave an enthusiastic assessment of his work, which is up 1.8 percentage points over last week’s results, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.
It was the second consecutive week in which his approval rating increased after it climbed to 30.4 percent from 29.3 percent one week earlier.
Yoon’s disapproval rating fell 1.4 percentage points , to 65.8 percent.
“We will have to watch for another week or two to see whether this is a good improvement, but at the very least the ratings have reached the lowest level in the short-term,” the pollster said.
Yoon who started his presidency with an approval score of around 50 percent Yoon’s approval rating has seen it drop to below 30 per cent following an unpopular policy plan and criticism of his personnel selections for the presidency and government.
In a press conference to mark his 100th day in office the President said he will respect the public’s opinion and investigate the many issues that have been brought up.
The approval rating for Yoon’s People Power Party rose 1.8 percentage points to 37.6 percent after a three-week slump and reducing its gap with the main opposition Democratic Party, whose rating declined 2.7 percentage points to 44.4 percent.
