Schroder himself didn’t appear at the hearings and did not even send an attorney.

The final decision of the arbitral committee is able to be appealed within two weeks.

The former Chancellor who served in the office from 1998 between 1998 and 2005, has been criticised for years due to his links with Russian state-owned enterprises and is considered to be a close personal acquaintance of Putin.

The pressure on Schroder to get away from Putin increased following the invasion of Ukraine.

In May, he finally announced that he would step down from the board of supervisors of Rosneft, the Russian energy company Rosneft.

He also declined an offer for the supervisory board post at Gazprom.

However, in an interview with RTL/ntv, a private broadcaster, Schroder was once more unable to dissociate him from Putin.

He also pushed for the controversial Nord Stream 2 Baltic Sea pipeline that was put off in light of the Russian invasion and was put into operation.
