Dhaka 27 December : .Bangladesh’s Anti-Crime Elite Force Rapid Action Battalion arrested Hamjalal Sheikh on Monday.He was one of the ferry owners that caught on fire Friday.Numerous people were killed in the ferry fire.
Commander Khandker Al Moin, RAB spokesperson said that the ferry owner was being held for murder.
Following a complaint against them, a Dhaka-based marine court issued warrants for eight people, Sheikh included, and the three owners of the ill-fated vessel “MV Abhijan-10”.
Jhalokati Deputy commissioner Md Johar Ali stated to Xinhua on Sunday that fire originated in the engine room.He also said that fire spread quickly as the ferry traveled down the Sugandha river.
The engine room of the vessel was altered illegally, and without proper authority permission, officials were quoted as saying by The Daily Star.
Three hours of intense fire erupted on the ferry that was three stories tall, sailing between Dhaka and the Barguna region in southern Bangladesh.
There were at least 38 deaths, approximately 100 people hospitalized and 26 others still missing as rescue efforts continued.
