United Nations, December 27, : .UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres mourned Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s death and called him an outstanding figure in the world of peace.Guterres said, “I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing Archbishop Desmond Tutu.An unwavering voicefor the voiceless,” Xinhua reported Guterres saying.
“Archbishop Tutu is a global leader in peace and an inspiration for generations.” He was an inspiration to generations during the worst days of apartheid.
The Nobel Committee was proud to recognize Archbishop Tutu for his unwavering determination to create global solidarity in order to ensure a democratic South Africa.He was the chairman of Truth and Reconciliation Commission and made a significant contribution in ensuring peaceful and just transition to democracy South Africa.
Guterres said that Guterres’s great wisdom and experiences were communicated with humor, humanity and hearts.
Archbishop Tutu, a staunch advocate of multilateralism, was a prominent member of UN’s Advisory Committee on Genocide Prevention and on a High Level Fact-Finding mission to Gaza in 2008.
He said that Archbishop Tutu has fought passionately over the past decades for effective action on many critical issues such as poverty, climate change and HIV/AIDS.
Guterres stated, “Although Archbishop Tutu’s death leaves a large void on global stage, but in our hearts we will always be inspired by his example and fight for a better planet for all”,
