Oded Forer, the Israeli agricultural minister, decided that the Israeli market would be open to duty-free imports of 70 to 100 million eggs.

The recent outbreak of bird flu that struck 60 chicken coops across Israel has prompted the Ministry to initiate an emergency procedure in order to stop the spread of this virus.

The ministry reported earlier in December that wild cranes with the H5N1 virus were found in northeastern Hula Valley.
