New Delhi, Aug 14 : The Congress on Sunday took on the BJP for “using” the tragic events of partition to advance political reasons.Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has claimed that the main motive of the Prime Minister’s decision to declare the 14th of August as ‘Partition Horrors’ Remembrance Day’ is to make use of the most tragic historical events as a source of inspiration for his current political fights.
A lot of people were dislocated and many lost their lives.Their sacrifices should not be overlooked or ignored.
Jairam was responding to the Prime Minister’s tweet in which he said, “Today, on #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay, I pay homage to all those who lost their lives during Partition, and applaud the resilience as well as grit of all those who suffered during that tragic period of our history.”
Ramesh said that the tragedy of partition is not a reason to promote hatred and prejudice.”The truth is that Savarkar invented the 2 nation theory and Jinnah perfected it.Sardar Patel wrote “I believed that if we didn’t agree to the idea of partition, India would be split into many parts and be completely destroyed’.
“Will the PM be able to recall this morning Shyama Prasad Mookherjee? The leader of the Jan Sangh, who championed the Partition of Bengal against the wishes of Sarat Chandra Bose and who was a member in the first Cabinet of India that was free as the devastating effects of Partition became clear?” he added.
The Congress stated that the “modern day” Savarkars and Jinnahs continue to pursue their efforts to split the country.
The Indian National Congress will uphold the tradition of Gandhi, Nehru, Patel and many others who were unwavering in their attempts to unify the nation.The politics of hatred are going to be defeated”.
