Ankara, Nov 24, : Apple temporarily stopped selling products in Turkey to customers because the Turkish lira continues its crash.CNBC reports that the Turkish lira fell to a record low on Tuesday of 13.44 to $1.
The online Apple Store is still available to customers in Turkey.However, Apple has stopped accepting new orders from Turkey.This means that shoppers cannot add any items to their digital shopping cart.
Nearly all devices are reported as being unavailable by the website.
Apple has not yet announced an official halt in sales.
Over the course of the year, the Turkish lira’s value has fallen by 45 percent compared to the US Dollar.
At the current rate, a Turkish lira equals approximately $0.078.Its value has been steadily declining since last week.
The currency of Turkey has been on a downward slide since the beginning of 2018, due to geopolitical tensions between the West and current account deficits and shrinking currency reserves.
Apple’s sales in Turkey are not expected to resume until the end of the year.Currently, the inflation rate is nearing 20%, which dramatically increases the cost of goods.
