McGrath was the second-highest wicket taker with eight scalps in five games, while making several of impressive contributions with the bat.

“I’m honored to be chosen as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for August as there are numerous fantastic players on top of their current game,” McGrath said.

“I’m enjoying being returning in the Australian team and being a part of some really memorable moments, such as becoming the first female team to be awarded the Commonwealth Games gold medal,” she added.

McGrath’s talent was evident in Australia’s final group game in the Commonwealth Games against Pakistan, which she won with an unbeaten 78 off just 51 balls and in doing so, helped her team score a huge score of 160/2.

She followed up her effort with the ball, claiming three crucial Pakistan wickets to ensure that Australia advanced to the knockout stage of the tournament with a roar and remained unbeaten throughout the entire tournament.

McGrath scored a remarkable 34 and took two wickets in Australia’s semi-final win against New Zealand, before going without a wicket and scoring only two runs in her team’s gold medal victory over India.

Although her performance in the final was lower than her usual high standard, McGrath tested positive for Covid-19 on the day of the game and was allowed to play by officials.
