London 5th Sep : UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss was on Monday declared the winner of the race to become the Conservative Party leader, defeating the former Chancelllor of Exchequer Rishi Sunak and opening the way to be the next Prime Minister.Truss who will succeed Boris Johnson, will be the third female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May, all of her Conservative Party.
The results were announced in 1922.Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady said Truss won 81,326 votes, which is more than 57%, as in comparison to Sunak’s 603,399 votes.
There was an attendance of 82.6 percent of the 170,000 registered voters, he added.
In her brief remarks to mark the occasion Truss expressed gratitude to the group for “organising one of the longest job interviews in the history of the world” and also her supporters.
She has praised her rivals especially Sunak and Sunak, stating that her campaign was “hard-fought” and showcased “the the depth and breadth of the talent” in the party.
Truss has pledged to deliver on the promises she made to voters, stating that the Tory party must demonstrate that it can meet its promises over the next two years and she said she has an “bold policy” to reduce taxes and expand the UK economy.
Concerning the increasing cost of energy, she says she will “deliver” when it comes to a crisis by not just taking care of the immediate issues with bills but also long-term supply issues.
