Berlin 2 September : Meta Platforms and chip maker Qualcomm on Friday signed a multi-year deal to work together on a new age of spatial computing, powered by Snapdragon extended reality (XR) platforms and technologies that support the Meta Quest platform.The two companies have collaborated in the development of cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) innovations for more than seven years, the most recent with Meta Quest 2, and this agreement confirms the partnership’s commitment to provide many generations of top-quality devices as well as experiences powered by customized VR platforms in the years ahead.
“We are currently working with Qualcomm Technologies to develop custom virtual reality chipsets driven by Snapdragon XR platforms and technology to help us develop our next roadmap of Quest products.” Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and Founder of Meta stated in an announcement.
“As we strive to develop higher-end capabilities and experiences in virtual and augmented reality, it’s become more crucial to develop specific technologies that will provide the power for the next VR headsets as well as other devices.” Zuckerberg added.
The teams of engineers and product developers will strengthen their technical collaboration to develop next-generation platforms and the core technologies that will help accelerate the realization of a fully realized metaverse.
