Tripura Assembly polls: BJP organizes a crucial meeting in Guwahati

Guwahati/Agartala, August 24 : With Tripura Assembly elections just six months away the Chief Minister Manik Saha attended a crucial meeting in Guwahati on Wednesday with his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma as well as central BJP leaders to discuss the electoral strategy.
Sources in Guwahati reported that in the four-hour meeting, Saha, who is also the state BJP chief and Deputy Chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma Sarma, BJP national General Secretary B.L.Santosh National Vice President Baijayant Jay Panda, and central observer Tripura Fanindra Nath Sharma discussed the initial strategies for the election, which is expected to take place in February next year.

The question of whether to keep the partnership with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) was also a topic of discussion.

Sarma, the most prominent strategist of the BJP and the convener of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) has played a major contribution in the 2018 Assembly elections in Tripura when the saffron-based alliance defeated the CPI-M-led Left Front after 25 years.

BJP President J.P Nadda and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Chief Mohan Bhagwat are expected to independently visit the state next week.

In the meantime the Trinamool Congress on Wednesday removed Subal Bhowmik from the post of President of the Tripura state committee.According to sources within the party, Bhowmik, who was previously in the BJP is likely to join it again when Nadda’s visit is scheduled to take place.

The former Congress MLA was appointed Trinamool’s Tripura state chief in April’s end.

Bhowmik Before becoming a member of the Congress in 2020 for the second time was in the BJP.
