New Delhi, Nov 24, : .The Indian Premier League (IPL) will likely begin in Chennai on April 2.
It will feature ten teams. Cricbuzz reports that fixtures are still being finalized, but the BCCI has communicated internally to key stakeholders that it plans to launch IPL 2022 in Chennai on April 2.
The 15th edition of this cash-rich league will feature 10 teams and 74 games.Therefore, the BCCI has agreed to extend the season for more than 60 days.
The final could therefore be played in the first weekend in June.
Each team will play 14 league games, with the current format of seven home-and-away games each.
While Chennai Super Kings are the current champions, Chepauk is the obvious choice for the inaugural match.However, there is no official decision on whether their opponents will be Mumbai Indians again, as has been the case most of the time.
Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, had earlier announced that the IPL would be returning to India after the full season in 2020 and the half-season in 2021 were staged in UAE.
“I know that you all want to see the CSK perform at Chepauk.The moment is not far.India will host the 15th season IPL and it will be even more exciting with the addition of two new teams.”We have a mega-auction coming up, so it’ll be interesting to see the new combinations,” the BCCI secretary stated at the function.
