New Delhi, Aug 28 : Patients who suffer from respiratory illnesses especially those living near the site of demolition of twin towers in Noida’s Sector 93-A could see a rise in health problems due to the fact that pollutants were mixed in the air following the demolishment of the high-rises according to an health expert told reporters on Sunday.In an interview with IANS, Jugal Kishore who is the director of Community Medicine Department, Safdarjung Hospital said that mainly patients of chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) asthma and chronic bronchitis may have an attack-like experience or even become worse.
“Patients who experience this kind of condition may need to increase their dosage of medication,” he told IANS in a statement, adding that people suffering from sore throats and other infections or allergies may benefit from anti-allergic medications.
“When the massive demolition occurs and other elements are involved asbestos and silica together with used gunpowder are the main factors that can cause respiratory issues,” Kishore said.
He added that patients with cardiovascular problems may also experience a surge in levels of blood pressure.
The best method to avoid the problem is to begin the medication as soon as symptoms begin, he said.
“They have employed the method of water sprinkling in order to eliminate the dust that is mixed in the air.The residents of the neighboring community could employ their own method of water sprinklers.They can also utilize the air purifier in the house to avoid issues,” he told IANS.
“Persons with COPD as well as other respiratory illnesses in the surrounding areas should wear the N-95 mask when walking outside to avoid dust and problems,” said Harish Salve Additional Professor at the Centre for Community medicine at Delhi AIIMS.
The demolition has resulted in greater levels of pollution being mixed in the environment, which will take another 10 to 15 days to settle and could have an immediate impact on PM-2.5 Salve, said Salve and added that those who suffer from asthma or other respiratory ailments are at risk of an increase in the severity of the issues.
