Student union elections: NSUI draws blank in Congress-ruled Rajasthan (Ld)

Jaipur 27 August : The results of the elections for the student union for Rajasthan University were announced on Saturday, in which the NSUI supported by the Congress has been unable to draw a blank, as the BJP-backed ABVP has won five seats, with the SFI winning two seats, while others have gotten seven seats on the presidential post.
The National Students Union of India (NSUI) did not gain a single seat in the last election, former CM Vasundhara Raje termed it as the anger of the student community because of the mismanagement of the Congress in the state.

Raje stated, “NSUI has not got one president’s position.”

“The student-led power has expressed anger of the people affected by the shady decisions of the Congress in the state. If only the government of the state is willing to look into the mirror .,” she said.

Similar to that, BJP state president Satish Poonia criticized the poor performance of the NSUI and said, “Congress double zero (00), Akela Rashtravad (05) Hero.”

Minister of the Union Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said, “The results of the elections of the student union which were held in the colleges of Rajasthan demonstrate that NSUI is following in the of the footsteps of Congress. This is not an ugly loss but an absolute wipeout.”

It is worth mentioning in this context that Nirmal Chaudhary, an independent candidate and NSUI rebel was elected on Saturday to the post of president of Rajasthan University in the student union elections held on Friday.

Students were heard shouting banners in the name of Sachin Pilot shortly after the announcement of Chaudhary’s win came in.

Niharika Jorwal, daughter of the Pilot Camp leader and Cabinet Minister Murari Lal Meena finished second.Similar to Chaudhary she was also refused a seat by the NSUI and, as such, she ran as an independent candidate.

There are now questions regarding the reason the NSUI picked Ritu Barala as the post of president.

It was a tight contest between Choudhary and Jorwal. While Chaudhary scored 4,843 votes Niharika scored 2,578 votes.

Ritu Barala of the NSUI who was third, with 2,010 votes, and Narendra Yadav of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) was fourth with 988 votes.
