Seoul 11 August : Samsung Electronics aims to boost the percentage of smartphones that fold to half of the total sales of smartphones by 2025, a top executive stated, following Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest foldable phones in an online conference.
Samsung is the world’s largest smartphone maker, is planning to bring its foldable smartphones a major column along with the Galaxy S flagship series and a major segment in the high-end segment, Roh Taemoon, the president and director of Samsung’s mobile experience (MX) division announced in a press event following the Unpacked online event.

Roh added that Samsung’s latest series of foldables, including the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4, will allow Samsung to consolidate its position as the leader in the world smartphone market, in spite of ongoing problems caused by recession fears and high inflation, which have reduced the purchasing power of consumers.

He said that the latest smartphones that fold “improved in both hardware and software aspects,” especially in close collaboration with the global mobile industry partners such as Google, Microsoft and Facebook parent company Meta according to Yonhap news agency.

The style of clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 4 is designed to “go completely hands-free” permitting users to make calls, respond to messages and take photos without opening the phone and offers a more pleasant users’ experience when uploading videos to Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram According to Samsung.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4, that opens as the book it is, provides enhanced multitasking experience and a user-friendly screen environment with an interface similar to the layout of PCs, providing an easy access to the user’s most-used and popular applications.

Samsung claimed that the phone has the drag-and-drop feature that is available in Google applications, like Gmail to ensure users can swiftly and easily share photos and files, as well as copy and paste hyperlinks.

Roh claimed that Samsung has acquired enough inventory for its initial needs through better management of logistics and supply chains.

According to the industry tracking company Counterpoint Research, foldable phones are the fastest-growing type of smartphone this year.They are expected to grow by 73 % year-over-year, to 16 million units.

In the first quarter of this year, Samsung held the lead in the market with the highest market share of 62 percent share and was closely followed by the Chinese company Huawei with 16 percent market share, the company stated it added that Samsung’s market share is predicted to grow to 80 percent in the second half due to the new foldable series.

“We anticipate that Samsung’s new Galaxy Fold 4 and Flip 4 combination to sustain Samsung’s growth in the market and sell nearly 9 million units in the coming year,” analyst Jene Park from Counterpoint Research said.

In its earnings call in the month of March, Samsung said while smartphone demand is expected to slow in the second quarter due to long-running geopolitical and economic uncertainty Samsung will attempt to increase sales of flagship products and profits by making foldable phones the standard.
