Islamabad Sep 10, : United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appealed to the international community to show “massive” assistance for Pakistan to address the ongoing climate crisis that is destroying the lives of millions of people. “Pakistan requires a massive international support from the international community.
This is not just a statement of solidarity, but an international obligation and obligation.Pakistan is on the forefront of the impacts of the climate crisis,” the secretary general was quoted by Xinhua news agency.
The secretary-general spoke at an official press conference in conjunction with Pakistani Premier Shahbaz Sharif in the capital Islamabad in Pakistan, stating that his voice is in the disposal of the people and the government of Pakistan who are dealing with difficult circumstances in the wake of floods.
Before the press conference, Guterres received a briefing from the officials of the National Flood Response Coordination Center about the immense destruction that was caused by the current floods and ongoing relief efforts across the nation.
“We engaged in war against nature and nature is taking back the fight,” Guterres said.”We must stop the increase in emissions and mobilize more resources for countries like Pakistan to avert these devastating catastrophes that are caused by the climate change.”
According to the most recent figures of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan, over 33 million people have been affected 1,355 died and 12,722 were wounded in the monsoon season’s rainfall and floods from mid-June.
In addition, over 1.7 million homes have been destroyed and an estimated 753,187 livestock have perished according to the NDMA and added that 81 districts of Pakistan were affected by floods , and 634,749 people live in camps.
