Assam government to create new posts to speed up justice delivery

Guwahati 10th September : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday declared that there was a necessity to speed up the justice delivery system, and added that the state government will establish 100 new posts.
In his speech during the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim in Guwahati, Sarma stated that the Central government has approved the amount of Rs 9000 crore for the enhancement of the infrastructure of the judiciary and Assam will receive approximately 300 crore for its part of the.

In addition the state government is planning to offer another 300 crore rupees.

“We are working with various welfare programs to help those who retire from active practice,” he added.

Sarma also praised the Bar Council for activities such as orientation programs for advocates, efforts towards the digitization of records, etc.

He further stated that the judiciary has played an important role in protecting the rule of law and ensuring the delicate balance of power between the four the pillars of our democratic system.

“This has ensured that the fundamental rights and liberties of the people of this country are protected,” the Chief Minister added.

Sarma further added: “The ancient Indian law was built on the concept of Dharma or Nyay which spoke of the concept of natural justice.This is that same principle that is still in use to govern our judicial system today.”

On Saturday, Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju launched the Gauhati High Court Museum, located in the old block premises, where various items like a handwritten version of the Constitution of India, robes and other items of former and retired judges, litho machines among others, have been displayed.
