The Telangana state government has stated that it will not allow underground parking in Multiplex buildings to be constructed on more than an acre across Telangana.The state government ordered to use parking‌ only up to the first 5 floors.

The state government granted permission only for the podium parking.

The system is already in place in a metropolis like Mumbai.

Two basements will be allowed if the parking area is not adequate for five floors.Also, the state government made it clear that strict action will be taken against the building owner if these rules are violated.

Officials say that the state government introduced the new policy in the wake of accidents involving heavy water lots in cellars during the rainy season.Last year, the heavy rains caused water to seep into underground parking lots in areas like Madhapur and Gatchibauli in Hyderabad.

Officials say that the decision on underground parking was made after a high-level meeting.In this regard, a notification was issued amending the Building Rules formulated in 2012.

Recently, State municipal chief secretary Arvind Kumar issued the orders.
