Dubai the 31st of August : India and Pakistan have been fined 40 percent of the match fee for keeping an under-rate of 0 in the Group A game of the Asia Cup 2022, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday.Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees handed down the sanctions following the fact that Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam’s teams were found as being two overs shy of the respective goals in Sunday’s game after taking time allowances into account.
“In conformity with the provisions of Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel that deals with violations of the minimum over-rate the players are penalized by 20 percent of their match fees for each time their team does not bowl in the time allotted,” the ICC said in an announcement.
Both captains pleaded guilty the offense and agreed to the penalty which meant there was no requirement for an in-person hearing.
Umpires on the field Masudur Rahman and Ruchira Pilliyaguruge as well as third umpire Raveendra Wimalasiri, and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel levelled the charges.
