Kiev 9 September : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sat down with visiting US Secretary of State Antony Blinken here to discuss American aid to the war-ravaged nation.In an announcement, Ukraine’s president’s press office said that in the discussions in Kiev on Thursday, all parties spoke about US economic, financial and military assistance, in particular, the security aid of $675 million, which was announced by American Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin earlier in the day, according to Xinhua news agency.
In a post on Twitter after the meeting Blinken declared: “Russia has failed to stop Ukraine’s will or our collective determination andZelensky as well as the Ukrainian people of Ukraine have taken the lead in the struggle for freedom.
“The US will continue to help Ukraine in its valiant defense of its democratic, secure and prosperous future.”
In his remarks, Zelensky thanked the US government for its decision to provide Ukraine with $6 billion in grant aid.It includes $3 billion in security assistance and $3 billion in financial aid earmarked by the World Bank.
Concerning the assistance to military from the US President Obama stated that American weapons, including those of the HIMARS multi-launch rocket systems have strengthened Ukraine’s position in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Zelensky and Blinken also discussed the potential of the development of a stronger defence support in Ukraine and the launching of the Lend-Lease program.
Blinken has arrived in Kiev earlier in the day to make his second trip since the outbreak of the war between Russia and Ukraine on the 24th of February.
