Actor Vikram has shared his confidence in the upcoming release of Ponniyin Selvan II, stating that it will bring all the pieces of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus together. The film is a made-up story based on a Tamil novel, which was written by Kalki Krishnamurthy in 1955.
This novel talks about the early life of a powerful king named Arulmozhivarman. He later became the famous Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I, who ruled in the southern part of India.
The first part of the film received high praise for its aesthetic value and layered characters and was reported to be the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2022.Vikram plays Aditha Karikalan in the pan-India film and stated that the team didn’t expect the film to break all records in the south, but knew it would be received well as it was true to Tamil culture.
Vikram and co-star Karthi, who plays Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan in the film franchise, addressed the confusion surrounding the first part’s storyline, particularly among audiences in the north.Karthi explained that the second part offers a recap of the first installment, making it easier to follow the story.
Vikram also suggested that the confusion was due to the complexity of the character names, which even he struggled with during the dubbing process.
The cast expressed their willingness to reprise their roles if Mani Ratnam were to make a third part.Ponniyin Selvan II is set to be released on April 28 and features a star-studded cast, including Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala.
