This is the first big defeat for the YCP, which had swept all the elections since 2019 and a major set back for CM Jagan Mohan Reddy who is looking for damage control in order to mark a strategy for next Assembly elections.

TDP got a boost by securing the victories in east Rayalaseema, west Rayalaseema and North Andhra graduates’ constituencies.Among the three West Rayalaseema (Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool districts), is considered a stronghold of the YCP led by Jagan Mohan Reddy.

TDP candidate Bhumireddy Ramagopal Reddy got 1,09,781 votes while YCP’s Ravindra Reddy secured 1,02,238 votes.

Ramagopal Reddy defeated his nearest rival Ravindra Reddy of YCP by 7,543 second preference votes.

It was a close contest between he TDP and the YCP but the opposition candidate surged ahead in the elimination round to win the seat.

In the East Rayalaseema TDP’s Kancharla Srikanth Chowdhary bagged the victory (Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor) with a margin of 34,110 votes over the YCP candidate.

TDP candidate Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao won North Andhra (Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam) seat by a margin of 34,836 votes over the YSRCP candidate.

Coming to the defeat of the YCP in the Graduate MLC polls in North Andhra, party senior leader Y.V.Subba Reddy monitored the election campaign.Usually, senior leader and MP Vijay Sai Reddy is given the reins whenever the YCP has to face any elections but this time, Subba Reddy was brought into the scene. But being a newcomer, his strategy did not work out and the party had to face defeat.

Political observers opine that the removal of Sai Reddy from key positions has led to the unprecedented defeat of the YCP in the polls.

Meanwhile, AP government chief advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy has become more influential in the YCP.He is playing a prominent role in all issues, including the elections. As part of it, he had removed Sai Reddy from helming the MLC polls in North Andhra and also from managing the social media wing of the party.

It is being said that Sajjala has knowledge and grip over administrative affairs but not in issues concerning the public.

No other leader in the YCP who can manage things in Delhi better than Sai Reddy who can also supervise the poll campaign in a better way.The best recent example other than defeat in polls is Chief Minister Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent tour in Delhi which was a success.
