New Delhi, Sep 1 : Veteran actress Himani Shivpuri has recalled the time she considered of abandoning her professional career in acting after the death of her husband Gyan Shivpuri in 1995 and says it was the most difficult and most difficult time of her life.
She said: “Many times after my husband’s sudden death, I thought about abandoning acting.I wanted to end everything since I used to feel guilty about leaving my son at home with me to go to shows as mother.Since we didn’t have a lot of money and we were unable to afford it, we were forced to work.I can remember a particular incident in Kolkata where I breastfeeding my child while on the train.”

The actress who has been a part of many of films and television shows shared memories of her struggle , adding: “It is difficult to forget the strain and struggle of those days, of having to rush to the bathroom prior to performances to pour the milk so that the costume wouldn’t get soaked.The fact is that women often don’t have it easy whether at home or at working.However, I learned not to give up, and fight against the chances of life.”

Shivpuri is currently starring in the role of Katori Amma in the comedy drama ‘Happu Kiltan Paltan’.Apart from this, she was also seen in several big-name films like ‘Hum Aapke Hai Koun.! “, ‘Kabhi Khaushi Kabhie Gham .’, “Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon and numerous others.

Despite being a part of many Bollywood films, she was initially never interested in becoming a part of this industry.

“After finishing my post-graduation in organic Chemistry, I was scheduled to travel to the United States for advanced studies.

However, at the similar time, I was selected for the National School of Drama(NSD).Everyone was annoyed when I told my family that I wanted to attend NSD.At first I was a negative view of Bollywood.”

“I was not looking forward to being in films.”

“I was of the opinion that Bollywood was the place where actresses were expected to showcase their best.I was content with plays and theatre until I met my husband’s death, Gyan Shivpuri, who inspired me to make films.I started auditioning and am happy and blessed to have been a part of in classic films like “Dilwale Dulhaniya le Jayenge,” as well as ‘Pardes’ and ‘Umrao’.” stated Himani.

When asked how difficult it was to pursue acting as a profession, she answered: “I was born in a small town in Uttar Pradesh and then moved to Dehradun.At the time, entering into the world of entertainment was not looked by the public, and no one believed in my choice of career.I had convince my family to understand that acting was a serious business and one must be educated to become an actor.”

“Hence I decided to join the NSD and it required quite a bit of convincing.Thankfully, my father Haridutt Bhatt, supported me.But, it wasn’t as simple as it seemed.difficult for me to communicate to my family members that the choice of acting or theatre as career requires certain skills and a lot of hard working,” she shared.

In her interview about her journey so far in “Happu Ki Ultan paltan”, she said: “My journey with “Happu Kiltan Paltan has been awe-inspiring.It’s been a pleasant ride from the time the show first came to life and I was asked to be the lead character Katori Amma and to the moment when people refer to myself as Ammaji when on the set.”

Concerning her relationship with co-actors the actress, 61, said: “I knew Yogesh(Tripathi) since the time I was in the theatre So our relationship was very good and so was with Kamna (Pathak), although they were working with me for the first time.According to me, Katori Amma portrays an incredibly strong mother character.She is full of determination and has the ability to achieve her goals.It’s a multi-dimensional job with the elegance of motherhood.”
