New Delhi, Aug 22 : Farmers have begun getting to the Jantar Mantar in the nation’s capital on Monday to take part in their’mahapanchayat’ amid huge traffic jams along Delhi’s borders especially in Ghazipur where police have set up barricades.The gathering was called by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and other farmer groups.
The farmers of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and a host of other states are expected to send a memo to the President, urging their demands regarding unemployment and inflation as well as other issues.
The Delhi Police have beefed up security at the Singhu and Ghazipur borders , and has also implemented extensive security arrangements to prevent any untoward event.
Every vehicle and each person is scrutinized at the Singhu border.
The Delhi Police said the gathering of farmers could cause traffic issues and possibly untoward incidents throughout the capital city and that is why they have put in place security arrangements.
Police officers have been deployed throughout the capital city of the nation.
Dependra Pathak Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order and Law and Order, has made an appeal to farmers to not gather at Jantar Mantar.
