Will go on hunger strike in the event that J&K’s electoral demographics are altered: Sajad Lone

Srinagar 22 August : Sajad Lone, the president of Peoples Conference (PC) declared on Monday he will go on a hunger strike in front of Parliament if the electorate demography of Jammu and Kashmir is altered.
In an interview with the media here, Lone said that the Peoples Representation Act (1950 and 1951) is not a threat to us, however the intent of the government is.

He declared that he would not accept the explanation on voting rights for non-locals by the government , nor refuse it.

“We will watch and wait for the situation” he said.

In a separate change, Sajad Lone said that he will not be attending the all-party meeting scheduled for Monday by the former Chief Minister and National Conference Chief Dr.Farooq Abdullah to discuss the issue of voting rights granted to non-locals despite being invited.

“I have plenty of admiration for Dr.Farooq Abdullah personally however, I will not be attending the meeting since it is a must to adopt any action to combat the inclusion of non-locals in the voting process, then the meeting wouldn’t be awaited in the media’s eye”, he said.

He also accused PDP president Mehbooba Mufti of trying to regain ground with these desperate steps.

It is important to remember that Mufti had asked Dr.Abdullah to call an all-party meeting to discuss the issue.

Sajad said that despite the claims of unity local political leaders have been fighting each other, giving the impression that they aren’t focused on establishing unity among local political parties.
