New Delhi, Aug 27 : Twitter shopping allows brands to post items on sale and also tag items on the top of the profile of a seller is a risk for content moderation and can cause social or individual harm as the media reported.In an internal memo of the company that was that was obtained by The Verge, several elements of Twitter’s e-commerce platform are classified as “high” under “risk assessment”.
“One major risk is the possibility that fields created by merchants such as shop descriptions, shop names, and shop names can be used by criminals in destructive ways.” according to the memo.
Contrary to Instagram users, Twitter users are unable to purchase the item directly on the platform, since clicking on items on sale will take them to the website of the seller.
One of the most important features of the shopping on Twitter is shareability.
The memo also categorized this feature as a high-risk option.
The company warned that sharingability features “could cause more harmful content being amplified by raising the profile of content that is in violation of Twitter guidelines”.
“Shareable Shops increase the chances that users might encounter Shops that are not in compliance with the law or products that are deemed to be violative in the Shop,” the memo read.
“It could also encourage bad actors to promote harmful or illegal goods by sharing tweets and tweets about their own shop.”
A spokesperson for the company stated in an announcement that the memo “was part of an evaluation of a new feature which was led by the product trust team”.
“We’re always striving to increase the security of our service , and this is especially true with the introduction of new features and products,” the spokesperson said.
The shop feature on Twitter lets anyone with an official account selling products in the US to manually add items that are available for purchase to their account.
