Islamabad 12th September : Pakistan will not be seeking a bilateral meeting between the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, when they, along with 13 regional heads will be under one roof in the coming week in the city of history of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, to take part in the 22nd Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, sources told. “Islamabad may consider accepting the possibility of a positive response if New Delhi requests for a formal meeting” high-ranking sources in the Prime Minister’s Office said to The News.
The possibility of a meeting of two heads in the corridors of the summit can’t be denied, as the sources suggested.
The Foreign Office will brief about the final agenda of the meeting later in this week.
The first meeting between Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping, will be significant because it will be part of the former’s first overseas trip since the outbreak of coronavirus, The News reported.
The sideline meeting will be of significant significance because both countries have a variety of issues to talk about, which includes the expansion of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the urgent need for Chinese fiscal assistance to the economy.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan and his Azerbaijan counterpart Ilham Aliyev are part of the officials who hold bilateral discussions with Sharif in the fringes of the SCO.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite domestic difficulties and apprehensions about his domestic affairs, will take part in the summit.He has also scheduled a summit meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi.
