Amidst her busy promotional schedule, Neena Gupta recently shared a memorable experience from her early acting days—filming her first on-screen kiss.Reflecting on her past, the iconic actress reminisced about her role in the 1990s show called Dillagi, where she starred opposite Dilip Dhawan.
Neena revealed feeling anxious and uneasy before shooting the kissing scene, to the extent that she rinsed her mouth with Dettol afterward. She also mentioned that the makers had initially considered using the scene as a promotional tool, but it backfired instead.
Neena Gupta, reflecting on her acting career, revealed that she had to face different types of scenes as an actor, including those that involved physical discomfort or long hours in the sun.Recalling an experience from many years ago, she mentioned working on a TV series with Dilip Dhawan that included the first-ever lip-to-lip kissing scene on Indian television.Neena admitted feeling unable to sleep the entire night before shooting the scene.Despite Dilip’s good looks, she explained that his appearance didn’t matter much because she wasn’t mentally and emotionally prepared.
Although she was tense, she ultimately convinced herself to go through with it.
Neena further explained that just as some actors struggle with comedy or crying on camera, she had to push herself to overcome her apprehension and perform the scene. However, the audience didn’t accept the kissing scene, leading the makers to remove it from the show.Neena revealed that during that time, families typically had one television at home, and watching TV together was a common practice.
Consequently, many people were taken aback and uncomfortable with the depiction of a kissing scene on screen.
Lust Stories 2, the anthology in which Neena Gupta appears, consists of four short films directed by renowned filmmakers Sujoy Ghosh, Amit Ravindernath Sharma, R Balki, and Konkona Sensharma.
