Los Angeles, Sep 13 : Actor Kenan Thompson had the crowd laughing over the story of primetime TV when he hosted the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday evening. “It is me the mayor of television, Kenan Thompson!” he declared, introducing the show.
“TV is not the way we earn our living.Our agents also earn an income!”
“Tonight we will gather to honor the greatest invention in the history of humanity,” he continued.
“If there wasn’t a need for television what should we do in our spare time? Read books? Nobody in this room has ever read any book in the past 50 years.You are watching TikTok? Do you mean tiny vertical TV? Have you ever had sex? Gross! We have nothing but TV From “Netflix and chill “Paramount+ and eating dinner all by yourself’.”
“And what music fills us with more excitement and joy than the well-known opening tune of legally cleared theme music from TV? We’ve always had the ability to sing to them , but have never been in a position to dance to them until this point,” reports ‘Variety’.
Then the group of dancers joined Thompson on the stage and danced to remixes of the theme songs of “Friends,” “The Brady Bunch’ ‘Law and Order: Special Victims Unit’ Then, they danced to ‘Stranger things’, ‘Friends Game of Thrones’.
Following the “Friends” part of the dance song, he joked: “Hey Have you ever seen “Living Single”? I think you’d really like it!” — referring to the numerous similarities “Friends” has to the sitcom with Queen Latifah which debuted first.
In his monologue he made fun of some of 2022’s more grittier dramasand the lesser-used platforms in the world of television: “‘Better Call Saul’ was difficult to watch because it was so terrifying.”Squid Game” was difficult to watch because of its violence.Also, ‘Yellowjackets’ was difficult to watch since it was on Showtime.”
He added that Zendaya is nominated to win the lead actress Emmy for her role in “Euphoria,” recently turned 26 years old.
“Twenty-six is a strange stage in Hollywood.You’re old enough to be an high school student but you’re too old to get married Leonardo DiCaprio.”
In the following ceremony, he reunited with Kel Mitchell.The two worked frequently together during the 1990s with projects like the sketches for teens like “All That,”” sitcom “Kenan & Kel” and comedy film “Good Burger”.
In a sketch in which Kumail Nanjiani appeared to play the role of Emmys bartender Thompson was approached by a slumped Mitchell and asked, “Can we get you some drinks or something?” To Mitchell, to which Mitchell said, “You know what? Do you know where I can have an Good Burger?”
