United Nations, Sep 9 : The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution to create the United Nations Youth Office.The resolution, passed without any vote stipulates that the Youth Office will lead engagement and advocacy to advance the cause of youth issues throughout the United Nations, in the areas of peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights.
It will also promote effective, inclusive and meaningful participation of youth and youth-led and youth-focused organizations in the activities of the United Nations, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Youth Office is also tasked to facilitate more UN system-wide collaboration as well as accountability and coordination on the development of youth-related issues, which includes UN assistance for member states in encouraging effective and meaningful involvement, participation, and empowerment of youth.
