Singapore 3rd Sep : Singapore, Sep 3 : The first Zika outbreak since March 2020 was discovered in Singapore in the period of August 21-27 The Straits Times reported.Zika is a type of virus caused by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito.
The mosquito is also an asymptomatic carrier of the chikungunya and dengue virus, Xinhua news agency reported.
The newspaper published on Friday that the Zika incident is part of an increase in dengue-related illnesses this year.Since the beginning of 2022, Singapore has reported 25,591 dengue cases, as compared to the reported 5,258 cases for the entire year of 2021.
Singapore’s Health Ministry confirmed the localised community-wide spreading of the Zika virus in the city-state in the year 2016.
